I can’t believe that it’s been one year since my fall. I could not imagine how difficult this would be.
My last post update was 2 months ago. Since then, I have started Aqua therapy and have been there 4 times so far. It feels really good in the pool. I almost cried when I was walking in the water WITHOUT a walker. Getting in the pool, with the stairs, is difficult, but I do it, with a little assistance. I have to use the chair lift to get out of the pool. I don’t have the strength to go up the stairs yet.
I continue to go to regular PT as well. My therapist is very patient. She listens to me and my body. I can finally bend my knee 85 degrees. The knee Dr wants me to get to 90 degrees, so I are getting close. With my walker, I can go up and down 1 single small stair, but I can not go up or down a normal stair or multiple stairs yet. I just don’t have the strength in my leg yet. I can finally put my left shoe on, while in a sitting position, instead of standing. I can also take off and put a sock on my left foot myself. I can get in and out of the house and the car easier and drive myself. So there has been some progress. I am also loving the grab bars in my shower and wearing water shoes in the shower is also very helpful.
I got the results back, from all of the lab work, that the endocrinologist ordered and I have a follow-up appt with them soon, to go over everything and chart the next steps. The plan is to work on the thyroid issue and then address the bone density.
I have had a lot of Dr appts recently, I went to the gynecologist, which I kept postponing. I didn’t think I could get up on the table. They told me that they had a table that lowered and I was able to go finally.
I also went to the dermatologist, the dentist and eye Dr for regular check ups. I had to buy new glasses because my prescription changed. My current glasses were 5 years old and SO cloudy. I just picked up my new glasses and WOW, I can see again. It sucks that glasses are so expensive! I saw my PCP this week as well and he is now up-to-date on everything that’s been going on.
All of this has changed my life so much. I still work my full time job from home, and since I can go up and down the small stair, I have moved back into my office about a month ago. I go to PT twice a week. I have to do exercises at home, on the days I don’t go to PT. I still need the walker to get around, which has been exhausting and very taxing on the rest of my body. I have to walk as much as I can to strengthen my bones.

Other than work, PT and Dr appts, I haven’t gone anywhere for fun. I know this has to change, especially with summer coming. But I can’t walk with the walker for hours on end. I so miss going on hikes, going antiquing, going to art fairs to sell and shop, going to festivals, making my art, and traveling. This needs to change.
I need something to get around in, so I can start going out to see and do things again. Living life again. Until I can walk freely, I am thinking about possibly getting an electric mobility scooter or electric wheel chair, which would make it easier to go to places and get around myself, instead of Dave having to push me around in a regular wheelchair. I do have a wheelchair as a buck up. I got one for free, from the Free Mason’s. Such a great service.
Since I talk about this, I get tons of ads for wheelchairs and scooters online. They are not cheap, and money has been tight this last year. Since I haven’t been able to do art shows or watch dogs in the last year, I’ve had some medical bills, that are not related to the workers comp case, and business has been slow at work, my finances have been tight. We will see if I can make it happen.
In the meantime, the rest of this year, I will continue to work on my health. We started talking about taking a trip to Maine in the fall of 2027. We started a vacation fund and I can’t wait to start planning. I love planning trips, it gives me something to look forward to.
Has anyone else had a hard time recovering from a broken bone later in life?
Does anyone have any tips on electric mobility scooters or wheelchairs?
Thank you for taking time to read my update. I really appreciate your support.
Stay well out there my friends.❤️
