Juried Art Exhibit

A friend of mine suggested that I submit something to a local art exhibit. I didn’t feel like my paintings were good enough, so I decided to submit 3 photos I have taken and were already framed in my house.

I got an email on Mon, 10/12th, that 1 of my photos was accepted!!

I was so excited!! This is the first time that I have ever submitted something in an art exhibit, let a lone a juried show. There were 145 submissions and my photo was 1 of 60 accepted!

Everything had to be dropped off in 4 days. The exhibit opened on 10/17 and will go until 11/28. They required each piece to have a wire on the back for hanging. My photo did not have a wire. That night, after 2 calls to framers, I took my cheaply framed, 36″x48″ printed photo to get professionally framed.

Luckily, the framer had a couple of pre-made frames. They were 30″x40″ so we had to cut the photo down, but it still looked good. The woman said that she would have it ready by Wednesday!

The artists were also allowed to sell smaller items, like prints and cards. So I sent a whole bunch of images to the local drug store and made 4″x6″ prints over night. 120 to be exact. I went to the craft store to get card stock and envelopes and glue. In the next 2 days, I made all the blank note cards.

Wednesday night, I picked the newly, professionally framed photo and it looked great!!

Thursday night, after work, I took everything to the gallery. I went back on Saturday to see my photo hanging on the wall, with all of the other art. It is such an honor to be amongst such great talent.

I visited the exhibit a couple of times since the opening. I have sold some cards, yay!

What an experience!

I also became a member of the gallery so I can participate in future events.
